A DRIVER had a lucky escape when his Domino’s Pizza van rolled down a hill, smashed through a fence and plunged down a drop before crashing into flats.

The van was then wedged in between flats on Mount Pleasant Road but its driver only suffered minor grazes.

Eyewitness Jen Buss, who lives on the road, said: “We heard crash, bang, wallop and thought it was kids playing. I realised I was looking at the underside of the van.

“I realised the van had gone through the wall and onto the block of flats.”

She said the driver got out of the van to deliver pizza to one of the flats nearby.

Realising it was slowly rolling down the hill, he tried to stop the van by jumping into its passenger seat. He was inside when it broke through a fence protecting the flats.

Firefighters from Malpas and Risca attended after being called at 7.04pm and had all left by 7.59pm.

A Domino’s Pizza spokesman from the branch on Tredegar Street in Risca confirmed one of the drivers had been involved in the crash.
