James Eddie claims he is keeping both feet on the ground in the aftermath of his new year super-show, writes David Kelso.

The rookie back-row player marked his first Magners League start of the campaign by producing a fine all-round display to help Glasgow earn their quickfire revenge over Edinburgh at Firhill.

Eddie, fit again after a long injury lay-off, sidestepped the notion that the stirring performance could take him into the reckoning for Scotland's RBS 6 Nations plans. "There is tremendous strength in depth in the breakaway department at the moment, both at Edinburgh and Glasgow," he said. "My priority is just to keep my head down and keep working hard."

Eddie went on to stress that the Warriors' must carry on their 2009 momentum by beating bogey side Newport Gwent Dragons at Firhill on Friday.

"The win against Edinburgh was obviously important to our league chances, although it was disappointing to give away a consolation bonus point at the end," he said. "Compared to the time immediately after the Boxing Day defeat at Murrayfield, this week's training will feel much, much more enjoyable.

"Winning the following week was great but we need to establish consistency and momentum. The scrum was good at the weekend and so was the line-out and if we can keep up that standard then we can see off the Dragons."
