AN illegal immigrant was yesterday found guilty of murdering his eight-month-old stepson.

Kyle Mutch was so badly beaten by Mohammad Ullah, 25, that his injuries were likened to those of someone who had been in a car crash.

The High Court in Forfar had earlier been told how Ullah, a Bangladeshi-born waiter who married Kyle's mother in November last year, had launched a ''murderous attack'' on the baby after losing his temper.

The attack, in Turiff, Aber-deenshire, on January 30 or 31, resulted in the baby's duodenum, part of his small intestine, being completely severed, liver lacerated and his losing a quarter of his total blood supply.

The baby's mother, Karen Mutch, 32, spoke of how she would never again know the joy of seeing the lovely smile of her son, who was described as a cheery and laughing baby.

She said: ''His little face is the last thing I see when I go to sleep at night and the first thing that comes into my mind when I awake every morning.''

However, Ms Mutch said she was convinced the real culprit was her mother, Marlane Low, with whom she has had a history of bad feeling.

Ms Mutch said last night: ''I will always believe that she was to blame and I will never, ever forgive her.''

Mrs Low, who is suffering from cancer, said: ''To have your own daughter accuse you of such a terrible thing is very hard to bear. But I swear I didn't lay a finger on Kyle. He was my grandson, for goodness sake, and I wouldn't have harmed him.''
