THE Ayr United manager, Campbell Money, and his assistant Norrie McWhirter both quit last night as the financial troubles at the second division club continued to pile up.

The future of the club is thought to be in jeopardy, such is the extent of the situation, and as the side prepare to face Morton tomorrow it is not yet known who will be in charge of the team.

Ayr could be declared bankrupt if they cannot find some way to satisfy their creditors in the face of six-figure debts. The board are seeking approval for a creditors voluntary arrangement and have called in accountants PFK, the former administrator of Motherwell.

On Wednesday the club said revenues had been adversely affected by being in the second division and that the loss of early-season cup ties had also denied them the chance of valuable revenue.

In a statement the club added: ''The board are presently working with professional advisers to achieve

specific measures required to overcome current difficulties and thereafter establish a viable business model.''

The Inland Revenue is believed to be among the parties who are owed a substantial amount of money and during the past week some non-

football staff were laid off.

lFalkirk yesterday signed 18-year-old French midfielder Manuel Kante.

Manager John Hughes said: ''He is one of the most promising players for his age in French football and I am delighted to get him on a one-year contract.''

lStenhousemuir have signed John Paul McBride on a one-year deal.
