A Glasgow suburban rail network is expected to return to normal today following disruption to thousands of commuters after a train was derailed.

Rail passengers suffered two days of chaos and cancellations after the rear carriage of a three-car train came off the rails in a tunnel between Exhibition Centre and Anderston stations on Monday morning.

A spokeswoman for First ScotRail said last night it was "anticipated" that services would return to normal today.

The only passengers on the derailed train were four railway workers, two of whom, travelling in the rear car, were slightly injured. There were no suspicious circumstances surrou- nding the derailment.

Officials from the Rail Accident Investigation Branch are investigating the cause of the Argyle Line derailment.

The routes affected were Lanark/Motherwell/Larkhall, Newton, Rutherglen, Argyle Street, Glasgow Central, Anderston, Exhibition Centre, Partick, Hyndland, Jordanhill/Drumchapel & Dalmuir.

Throughout Monday, all services from Exhibition Centre, Anderston, Glasgow Central Low Level, Argyle Street, Bridgeton, Dalmarnock and Rutherglen were scrapped.
