A PAX ON YOU

ELECTION night at the BBC continued the way it had gone throughout the campaign with Jeremy Paxmandoinghisbestto verbally skewer interview subjects.

The main target in the wee small hours was "Gorgeous" George Galloway who took Bethnal Green for the Respect party. Did Galloway feel proud about causing the exit of one of the fewblack, female MPs in the House of Commons, Paxman asked.

Galloway replied that it was a preposterousquestionand refused to answer.

Galloway said that Paxman hadn't congratulated him and when the interviewer did so he took off his microphone and walked off.

Earlier in the campaign Pax caused Sinn Fein's Martin McGuinness to lose his cool over claims that he is an IRA army council member. He also caused all of the three main party leaders to sweat.

SUN OR MAIL

Was it the Sun wot won it or the Mail-ed fist that caused Tony Blair's bloody nose?

The Sun's decision to pause on giving its backing and then opt for Blair did set the seal on the campaign. As did the Mail's (and the Sunday Herald's) call for Blair to be reelected with a reduced majority.

LEGAL ADVICE

The leaks of the Attorney General's advice firstly in the Mail on Sunday and then in huge detail in The Guardian and Channel 4 made Iraq an even bigger issue than it might have been.
