Fruits of the finalists

THE fruits of the Jerwood Applied Arts Prize for Textiles last year is to be seen in Scotland in a touring exhibition, appropriately enough in the Borders. The show will visit Ettrick Riverside in Dunsdale Road, Selkirk, for September and October. The venue was the largest working textiles mill in the Borders for more than 160 years until it closed in 1988. Now it is a business community but has also provided a home for design and craft shows.

The Jerwood show features the work of the finalists for the prize. It is presented in association with the Heriot-Watt University School of Textiles and Design where one of them, Sarah Taylor, is a reader.

Her woven optical fibre work is shown alongside the work of Maxine Bristow, Rowena Dring, Shizuko Kimura, Lauren Moriarty, Clio Padovani, Freddie Robins, and the winner, tapestry artist Shelley Goldsmith. The two month run will culminate (on October 29) with a Seminar Day when the artists will be present to talk about their work.

In good health

MANY congratulations to Jacqueline Shearer of Glasgow and Lynne Otty of Dumfries, both of whom correctly answered the poser we set at the end of last week and guessed that the Health Education Board of Scotland now wishes to be known as Health Scotland. They have now received a pair of tickets each for Sunday's HEBS Live+Loud pop

extravanganza at Hampden Park in Glasgow where the bill has been boosted by the addition of Scandinavian

disco-pop sensation Junior Senior.

Billboard will be down the front for Dannii. See you there.

Flavour of the east

THERE is to be an Indian flavour this year at the Traquair Fair, which wil be held at Traquair House, by Innerleithen, on August 2 and 3. Indiaphile lady of the manor and fair organiser Catherine Maxwell Stuart has been working with the

irrepressible Sanjoy Roy of Delhi's Teamwork Films (a formidable partnership) to create the programme.

Other global taste sensations available will include the Cajun sounds of Les Miseres and top Latin combo La Soneras Calveras. The entertainment for young people is always of the highest standard at the fair. It includes workshops in the Indian epic tale Ramayana by Bubul Sharma and Peneeta Roy.
