September 16.

The views of the Ayrshire Chamber of Commerce and Industry in relation

to the link between the A77 and the M8 have been well known for many

years.

There has never been any doubt in our minds that the county has

prospered in commercial, manufacturing, and tourist terms in spite of

totally inadequate road links to Glasgow and the South.

We have therefore been delighted at the recognition given to the

Glasgow link by Strathclyde region through their current proposals.

We have been happy to see the progress being made and in the normal

way would not have made any comment at this stage. In view, however, of

the objections being raised at this time in some quarters it would be

right for us to restate the very strong support our directors have for

what is currently proposed.
