BROWNIES from the 14th Salisbury (St Francis) unit welcomed a visit from the Mayor of Salisbury, councillor Jo Broom, with the guiding salute and unit flag on April 27.

The girls asked the Mayor a number of questions including, “what’s the best thing about being Mayor?” and “how many speeches have you done?”

The visit was designed to familiarise the girls with the upcoming election and to show the difference women came make in their communities when they engage with local issues.

A highlight for all the girls was getting the chance to try on the Mayor’s chain of office.

The Mayor talked to the girls about her recent trip to Salisbury’s twin city, Saintes, and about raising £50,000 for Exeter House School to give them a multi-sensory space.

A cheque of £40 was presented to go towards the Mayor’s target.
