STEVE Davis wants League One survival to be a platform to push on next season.

The Alex need just a point out of this Sunday’s home finale against Bradford City to be sure of staying up.

And although the boss admits it would be some achievement, he wants it to draw a line under recent struggles.

“We’ll give it everything we’ve got to remain in this division,” he vowed.

“League One gets harder year by year and it’s a great challenge but where we want to be.

“It’s similar to the Championship many years ago with the calibre of club and the players in this division now.

“Crewe tasted the Championship under Dario and it was a fantastic achievement to get and stay there.

“It was hard to sustain because the league got harder and that is coming down the pyramid now.

“You only have to see Tranmere Rovers drop out of the Football League because you’d say they are a similar size to us.

“But I am ambitious and I don’t want to battle in the bottom six all season.

“We need to try and establish ourselves and take it from there.”

Davis hopes reduced prices will boost the atmosphere for their day with destiny.

Adults can get in for £10 with concessions £5 and juniors £1.

“Our fans were terrific at Coventry and it really makes a difference,” he continued.

“We want to fill the stadium and it significantly helps.

“If you look at Wembley we took 13,000 so we need to find a way of getting that extra 9,000 into the ground.

“We have to entertain them and we have to get the results.”

Skipper Harry Davis is expected to shake off his calf injury to start while Jamie Ness could also return to contention.

Marcus Haber, Lauri Dalla Valle and Ryan Colclough should all retain their places up front as Crewe look to be positive and win the match.

“In terms of going forward at the club, we have to talk more about winning,” added Davis.

“We talk a lot about development but we have to develop that winning mentality too.

“Obviously we’d like to be safe but you take the difficult days in your stride and it makes you a better, stronger person with character and that’s what I want the younger players coming through to be.

“This is a similar scenario to last season.

“We’ve had to play catch up after a poor start and that’s something I have to look at.

“Bradford will be difficult opposition and the players have to perform to get the result we need.

“They were under the same pressure at Coventry, came through it and now we need them to do it again.”
