WICKER fences, dry stone walls, wire birds, ceramic butterflies and beehives will all feature in a spectacular garden created by pupils for their entry into a a popular upcoming festival.

Children aged from two to 13, from Abberley Hall School, are contributing to an entry in the Malvern Spring Festival show and have been working on the garden for more than two months, which will form part of school's garden challenge with the theme of The Hills Are Alive.

James Abbott, head of design and technology at the school in Great Witley,, said: "The theme of our entry is ‘The hills are alive’ and we really want to make our show garden as vibrant and interesting as possible.

"All the pupils are very enthusiastic about this project and have used a range of skills and crafts to make a contribution – the smallest children have helped to make houses for insects and the older students have been involved in building the walls, fences and designing the car which will form the centre piece of our entry."

Every year the festival challenges schools to take part in the event.

It is scheduled to go ahead on Thursday, May 7 until May 10, at the Three Counties Showground.
