YEAR Six pupils who will attend Wyedean School in Chepstow from September visited the secondary school for two days last week ready for moving up later this year.

Their first day involved working with staff and students in the Creative Learning Area. In Drama the students explored physical theatre by learning basic techniques of lifting, catching, leaning on and linking, working in groups to create performances of complex machines in motion.

In Art the students worked in teams to produce fashion wear from newspapers, followed by a fashion parade. In Graphic Design they toured the school taking pictures of different sections and piecing these together to map the school out ready for their start in September.

For Dance, the students designed their own routine and performed this on the day.

In Photography, they learnt how cameras worked and got a chance to explore this technology for themselves.

On the second day, the Year Sixes had a chance to sample product design in Design Technology. Students were challenged to design and make a wooden truck, bake their own personalised cakes, complete with packaging and logo, using the latest D&T equipment and software. They then assembled the various pieces into one final product.

A spokesman said: “The results were amazing. A big thank you to all the staff involved, and hats off to the students, all of whom embraced the activities with energy and enthusiasm.

“All in all it really was something to celebrate and a great start to Wyedean for our latest additions.”
