THE GREAT Cheese Race has been cancelled due to the 'inclement weather' and safety concerns of those taking part.

The race was due to be held during the Caerphilly-based festival at 6.30pm tonight.

The rest of The Big Cheese summer festival, which runs from today until Sunday, will continue as normal.

Those attending will be able to enjoy live music, good food and funfair rides from 3pm, plus the fantastic ‪Big Cheese‬ fireworks display at 10pm.

Set in the shadows of one of Europe's largest Castles the town of Caerphilly comes to life as people of all ages come to The Big Cheese, an extravaganza of street entertainers, living history encampments, music, dance, traditional funfair, folk dancing, falconry, fire eating, minstrels, troubadours and much more.

The Big Cheese is a 'must see' attraction for all visitors, celebrating its 17th year in 2014. Portraying the history, heritage and culture of Caerphilly. Families from all over the country flocked to Caerphilly to experience this fun filled programme of activities and entertainment.

The Big Cheese weekend is a freeevent and over 80,000 people are expected in 2015.

The Funfair opens at 3pm and Castell Howell Foods Fireworks display starts at 10pm on Friday, July 2015. The music entertainment and funfair are open on Friday afternoon, however, all other entertainment and trade stalls are open on Saturday and Sunday only.

There is an onsite bar and designated drinking area at the event. No alcohol is permitted to be brought onto the Big Cheese site. Alcohol will be confiscated and destroyed on entry by security staff, police or CCBC Community Safety Wardens.
