EMOTIONAL Wales boss Warren Gatland has declared their stunning fightback win against World Cup hosts England was down to courage and desire.

Defeat looked inevitable when Wales were seven points down and down to the bare bones with 10 minutes left.

Full-back Liam Williams (head), wing Hallam Amos (shoulder) and centre Scott Williams (knee) had joined an already lengthy injury list yet Gatland’s men came storming back.

A try by Scarlets scrum-half Gareth Davies and Dan Biggar’s conversion and booming penalty stunned the tournament hosts 28-25 on their own turf.

“The pleasing thing was that we looked the stronger team in the last 10 to 15 minutes and that’s testament to the hard work that this group of guys have put in,” said Gatland.

“The celebrations in the changing room were amazing and I am incredibly proud of the boys and the performance.

“It’s up there with one of the biggest wins I’ve been involved in. There’s nothing bigger than a World Cup and we all know how this pool is at the moment.

“For us to come up to Twickenham and win, I don’t think I’ve shown as much emotion at the final 80 minutes as I did today because it meant a lot to me, the coaches and the players.”

“Today was about courage and the players know how hard they have worked in the last three months and they dug deep,” he continued.

“This game was about emotion. If you want it badly enough it can happen fore you, you’ve just got to dig deep. The way that the players stuck at their task, I can’t ask for any more. They wanted it more in the end.”

Wales now travel back to the Vale of Glamorgan headquarters to prepare for an equally important clash with Fiji in Cardiff on Thursday.

“Fiji is massive for us. If we win on Thursday then England versus Australia is absolutely huge and the pool could be over after it,” said Gatland.

“Weve got to front up and get a result. Fiji have been pretty unlucky so we will respect them but if we perform well enough it puts quite a bit of pressure on England, who have to beat Australia. It’s one step at a time.”
