THE director of a Blackwood-based sweet company has raised more than £14,000 for Ty Hafan.

Justin Thomas, managing director of Bon Bon Buddies, has raised a total of £14,632.80 for the charity after taking on the Tough Mudder challenge.

The challenge is a12-mile obstacle course that features 20 intense activities that all play on common fears including fire, water, electricity and heights.

Mr Thomas said it was "adrenaline fuelled" and it made him face his fears.

The company had already raised £8,500 for the charity and now Mr Thomas' fundraising brings the total up to more than £23,000.

The team from Bon Bon Buddies visited palliative care charity Ty Hafan to present their donation and meet some of the staff that work at the organisation each day.

Mr Thomas said: “It was a truly moving afternoon, Ty Hafan is so inspiring and it was wonderful to see the incredible supportive environment that is provided for children and their families that are going through such a tremendously difficult time.

“We are a children’s confectionery company, and many of our employees have young children or even grandchildren, as such Ty Hafan is very special to our team."

Established in 1993, Bon Bon Buddies has grown to become Europe’s leading provider of character confectionery, distributing to 40 countries worldwide.

Since it was set up, Ty Hafan has helped the families of more than 600 such children across Wales with life-limiting conditions. It provides emotional and practical support for the youngsters and their families.
