CAERPHILLY council has spent £150,000 on road sweeper machines that will cover every village within the borough.
The specialist equipment is designed for pavement and town centre sweeping and each vehicle costs approximately £50,000.
The three sweepers will cover three different geographical area on each cycle, with each vehicle having its own sweeping schedule and covering every village within the borough.
They will be used for 12 hours a day, six days a week.
The old machines were replaced when they “came to the end of their reliable lives” after four years, it was said.
Six drivers will be employed to operate the machines for up to 3,744 hours per year.
Counicllor Nigel George, cabinet member for community and leisure services said:“The purchase of new road sweeper machines will ensure that the Cleansing Team maintain their high productivity levels.
“The previous road sweepers had come to the end of their reliable life and so this was a necessary purchase to ensure that the borough remains as well maintained as possible.”
