The body found near Ystrad Mynach railway station was of a 75-year-old woman, police have confirmed.

The 47-year-old arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder is a 'local' man police say and he is receiving hospital treatment for minor injuries.

The family of the deceased are being supported by specialist officers.

THE body of a woman was found by police at an address in Ystrad Mynach yesterday.

Chief inspector Carl Williams of Gwent Police said officers responded to a call for assistance from the Welsh Ambulance Service, to an address in Nelson Road, Ystrad Mynach at 5.45pm on Tuesday.

He said on arrival, the body of a woman was discovered. Her death is being treated as suspicious.

A 47-year-old man was arrested at that location on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody at this time.
