A FIFTY-SIX year old man from the Blaenau Gwent area has been arrested after a pedestrian was hit by a car on the A472 on Sunday morning.

He has been arrested on suspicion of driving without due care and attention and failing to stop at the scene of an accident, and remains in police custody.

The incident occurred along Hafod-yr-Ynys Road, Hafodyrynys at around 3.30am, and a 37-year-man from Crumlin remains in a critical but stable condition at the University Hospital of Wales.

Officers from Gwent Police are still appealing for any motorists who were in the area at the time to make contact to help with their investigations.

A spokeswoman from Gwent Police said that two motorcyclists were travelling through Hafodyrynys, in the direction of Crumlin from Pontypool.

She added that a Ford Focus estate was travelling in the same direction as the motorcyclists at the time of the incident, along with the driver of what the police believe to be a Mercedes C-Class compact travelling in the opposite direction, from Crumlin towards Pontypool.
