CHEERS rang out from crowds of football fans this weekend when a Risca man proposed to his girlfriend in front of the Eiffel Tower.

Darren Crandon, of Tanybryn, Risca, popped the question to English girlfriend Emma White when the pair were in the fan zone before Wales’ historic Euro match against Slovakia.

The big moment was captured on video as fans of all nationalities celebrated with the couple, getting soaked in beer in the process.

Engineer Mr Crandon, 32, originally had plans to propose during the Wales v England game but said “the moment felt right” at the fan park on Saturday, June 11.

“She still can’t believe it. We have been together for over two years and we met in an Irish bar in Brighton where she lives," he said.

“We have had our ups and downs like most couples but she has been the best thing that has ever happened to me.

"Plus she absolutely adores my two-year-old son Mason, as he does her.”

For the rest of the night the couple said fans of all nationalities recognised them and congratulated them as if they were friends.

Despite this, the football rivalry between the pair remains as strong as ever.

“There is a massive Wales England divide and god knows what is going to happen Thursday at the Wales v England Game,” Mr Crandon added.

“Maybe the engagement might be off if we beat England”.

As an added bonus the proposal came just before Wales stormed to victory with a 2-1 win over Slovakia.

Ms White, 24, an administrator at IQED Cardiff, described the proposal as the “best day of her life” and was “absolutely over the moon” with the experience.

“I couldn’t ask for a better family to join into. I love Darren’s son Mason to bits and I adore his Mum and Dad," she said.

“I lost both my parents to cancer a few years back and knowing I will always have inlaws as amazing as them. I couldn’t ask for anything better.

“When I met Darren my world completely changed and is the best thing that has ever happened to me.

"He came out of the blue and everything changed for the better.”

Wales will face England in the competition on Thursday, June 16.
