UPDATE 12.45pm:

A spokesman for the Welsh Ambulance Service has confirmed the man was taken to Morriston Hospital.

He said: "We were called at about 9.10pm on Monday January 16 to reports of a fire at an address on Rowland Drive, Caerphilly.

Members of the Hazardous Area Response Team and Emergency Medical Retrieval and Transfer Service attended the scene along with a BASICS doctor, two rapid response vehicles and an emergency ambulance and a man was taken to Morriston Hospital in a critical condition."

Firefighers and Gwent Police officers are currently on-site this morning as part of a joint investigation into the cause of last night's fire.

UPDATE 9am:

A MAN has been taken to hospital with serious burns and a dog has died after a house fire in Caerphilly last night. 

Fifteen emergency services vehicles including fire crews from Caerphilly, Whitchurch, Pontypridd and Cardiff Central were called to the blaze on Rowland Drive at 8.58pm.

Seven ambulance vehicles and four Gwent Police cars were also in attendance. 

A spokeswoman from South Wales Fire and Rescue confirmed: "A dog died in the fire and a man was taken to hospital with serious burns.

“One semi detached house was severely damaged by fire although there was no damage to the surrounding properties."

Firefighters are expected to re-inspect the house this morning to investigate the cause.
