A WOMAN who found maggots and cobwebs in a cereal box has said she will “never touch a bowl of cereal again”.

Kiri Booth, from Newport, was left shocked after buying a box of Kellogg’s Special K, only to find it filled with creepy crawlies.

They taped the box back up after opening it, but said maggots had continued to escape from inside it.

Miss Booth, 26, said: “I opened the box just after Big Brother started at 9pm, as I always like to have a bowl of cereal when watching it.

“I got my bowl and my spoon ready, and I wasn’t even really looking in the box when I opened it and put my hand in.

“I felt something funny, looked inside and saw the biggest cobwebs.

“Spiders are a fear of mine and I screamed so loud before waiting outside for my boyfriend to come and sort it out.

“Cereal is the main thing I eat but I don’t think I will be able to have a bowl again.”

Miss Booth and her partner, Chris Stock, were with his mother and sister when the bought the pack at the Asda store in Pill.

Mr Stock, of Clytha Square, said: “I’m fuming. We are worried about there being something like a spider in the pack and getting bitten but when I called up Kellogg’s they just offered me more products. I told them they were having a laugh.

“I taped it up but I’m not opening it again.

“It’s also the worst thing that could have happened to her (Miss Booth) as she has a fear of spiders.”

“My worry is that wherever this pack has come from there are more with who knows what in them,” added the 25-year-old.

A Kellogg’s spokeswoman said: “Kellogg’s adheres to food safety rules that ensure our products are of the highest possible quality. So, we are taking this complaint very seriously, and have requested a sample from the customer so that we can carry out a full investigation.”

A spokesman at Asda said: "At Asda, we pride ourselves on high food standards and expect the same from all of our suppliers. We would like to apologise and have offered a gesture of goodwill as an apology for this experience while we investigate the matter further. We have seen no other enquires of this nature.”
