A PAGEANT winner came first runner-up for a national title.
Mia-Rose Lewis, 17, from Newbridge represented the region at the Teen Galaxy Wales final on March 10 in Preston.
She was competing for the Welsh title and the chance to go on to compete in Florida in July for the international galaxy title against girls from all over the world.
She said: “I feel truly humbled to be representing Gwent in the prestigious galaxy pageant. I am so proud to be representing such an amazing community that has offered me endless opportunities."
As part of her role Miss Lewis has been involved in community events and became an ambassador for Ty Hafan.
She was appointed Blackwood’s young ambassador and switched on their Christmas lights and led a lantern parade. Recently she organised the Princess Rose fundraising pageant that took place in the Newbridge Memo.
At the national final she was awarded the Miss Teen Galaxy Wales Publicity and Miss Teen Galaxy Wales Charity awards.
Miss Lewis said: "I feel truly blessed to have been given the opportunity to walk alongside some of the most beautiful women I have ever met. After competing in the UK's Galaxy pageant for my first ever time and placing first runner-up I can say at the least I am truly overjoyed.
"I could never have made it to where I am today without the help and support of my amazing positive family who have forever believed in me and have always pushed me to be the best version of myself I could possibly be.
"My mum has put thousands of miles of her car travelling from one side of the country to the other, she is such an amazing role model and everything I inspire to be- I am so so so fortunate to have had her to accompany me through my journey."
