A NEW system of clinical supervision for midwives in Wales has been welcomed by the profession’s representative body.

The health board-led system aims to provide support and advice to midwives, and opportunities for learning and improved practice, to enable them to provide support to women in choices of care.

Royal College of Midwives (RCM) director for Wales Helen Rogers is “delighted” Wales has led the way in its development.

“Wales has previously led the way in developing new clinical models. It is great to see this happening again,” she said.

“The new model will further support and empower midwives to assist women in making the best personal choices.

“The RCM believes that supporting midwives and maternity support workers will not only improve safety, but ensure women, their babies and families receive the highest level of maternity care right across Wales.”
