RESEARCH by a leading charity has found that one in five adults in Wales have not ridden a bike in 10 years.

Research by the British Heart Foundation (BHF) Cymru on bike riding in Wales found that one in seven people say they have forgotten how to ride a bike because it has been so long since they have tried.

Although cycling is one of the nation’s favourite sports, a quarter of bike owners say that they haven’t ridden theirs in six years. One in five people are afraid of falling off or afraid of crashing.

Hannah Townsend from BHF Cymru, said: “It’s surprising to learn that whilst there is a clear appetite for cycling in Wales, there is still a vast amount of us who are not getting on our bikes often enough, or even at all. Cycling is a fantastic way of keeping your heart healthy.”
