A NEWBRIDGE football team has reunited 60 years after a famous victory, and every member made it to the get-together.

The Greenfield Secondary Modern School team met at Newbridge Rugby Club to mark their victory over Ebbw Vale Technical College which took place in April 1957. Their win made them champions of the Ebbw Vale and District League.

The Newbridge captain, Ronald Self, said: “We won the second time we were in the cup, and it was something to be very proud of”.

The reunion was organised by old friends and teammates Brian Selway and Ronald Self, who felt it would be a good idea to host the event once they realised that all original players were still available to attend.

Mr self added: “I hadn’t heard from any them for ages and we thought it would be nice to do”.

Newbridge player, Brian Selway, went on to win a cap for Wales, as did Ebbw Vale player, Ronnie Noyse, who Ronald Self, described as: “A friend but an enemy on that day”.

The team line-up is Colin Price (goal), Colin Gregory (right-back), Gareth Gadd (right-back), Michael Presley (right-half), Robert Collins (centre-half, vice-capt), Kenneth Pople (left-half), Ronald Self (inside-right, capt) , John Presley (inside-left), Lyndon Saveker (outside-right), Bryan Davies (centre-forward), Brian Selway (outside-left), Reserves: Robert Higgins and Terry Self.
