MEN, women and families are being encouraged to take part in a special walk this Saturday, to raise awareness of the White Ribbon Campaign, which is the largest global effort to eradicate male violence against women. Following on from the success of previous events a one-mile walk has been organised by Llamau in partnership with Caerphilly County Borough Council, and will take place on Saturday at 12pm at Caerphilly Castle (grassed area on Crescent Road).

In keeping with the theme ‘Walk a Mile in Her Shoes’, male participants are invited to take part in ladies footwear or an item of ladies clothing or jewellery – but whether participants choose to do this or wear more traditional footwear, they’ll all be contributing to raising awareness of the issue of domestic violence. Participants are also encouraged to bring along a torch or lantern to light the route and help ‘shine a light’ against all forms of domestic abuse.

Cllr Eluned Stenner, cabinet member with responsibility for Public Protection at Caerphilly County Borough Council said: “We are committed to raising awareness of domestic abuse in all forms, and in doing so, we hope to encourage those who may be suffering in silence to have the courage to come forward and seek support.”

She continued: “In addition to supporting public events we have hosted a number of internal events for our staff to allow them to pledge their support for the White Ribbon Campaign. It is vital that we all come together to make a stand and show our support for those suffering from domestic abuse.”
