CAERPHILLY council is faced with making further savings in excess of £7.2 million in the next financial year and we need your feedback to help us make the right decisions.

A list of draft savings proposals were recently approved by the council’s cabinet and these are now subject to a period of widespread public consultation.

I would encourage as many local people as possible to get involved and have your say so that we can define our priorities and deliver a budget that matches the needs of the community.

Details of the proposed cuts and a feedback form are available on the CCBC website (www.caerphilly.gov.uk) and the information will also be included in the December edition of Newsline.

There are also a number of drop-in sessions being organised across the county borough if you would like to find out more.

Motorists and businesses will welcome improvements to the traffic management arrangements at the Pwll Y Pant roundabout later this week.

Two lanes will be available on the A469 Llanbradach bypass, meaning that traffic will not be required to merge into one lane when travelling southbound on the bypass.

Two lanes will also be available around the roundabout, which will help improve capacity and traffic flow at this key strategic junction.

We recognise the importance of this critical pre-Christmas period for the local economy and we want to support businesses by encouraging shoppers into Caerphilly town centre.

Our message is that Caerphilly is open for business and we would encourage everyone to support local traders.

I had the pleasure of attending a special Christmas event for looked after children at the Maes Manor this week.

It was great to be invited to this festive annual celebration with so many wonderful children and I would like to thank all the carers and staff for their support and involvement.

Finally, our Operation Santa appeal closes this Thursday, November 30, and I would like to thank all those who have made a pledge to buy a gift for a local child.

If you would like to lend your support, then please call the pledge hotline on 01443 866 577.
