A WOMAN is taking Christmas into her own hands by becoming her own real-life Elf on the Shelf.

Rachel Lucey, of Bedwas, said she wanted to do something a little bit different for the Christmas festivities this year.

The 44-year-old, who is a mum of three, said her three children are too old for Elf on the Shelf, but decided she wanted to get herself festive ahead of the 25th.

After wondering about what to do, Mrs Lucey decided she would do a real life Elf on the Shelf - which is originally when families buy a toy Elf for their children so it makes sure they're being good for Father Christmas.

Mrs Lucey said: "My children were all a bit embarrassed by the idea, they're all too old for things like this as they're 21, 20 and 17-years-old.

"I did it for myself really as a bit of fun. I do a picture for every day and that will last up to December 24.

"I do take a couple at a time as I work so it's easier for me and take them in lots of different situations."

Mrs Lucey said when she's told people about her project she's had "positive responses".

She said: "Everyone has been really great about it and no one has said no if I've asked for a certain picture. Someone has contacted me asking for me to come to a local nursing home as the residents have seen my posts, so that's really great."
