AN 18-year-old from Blackwood has been crowned Miss Caerphilly 2018.

Nia Parsons' presentation took place at the Miss Wales 2018 final at The Riverfront in Newport last week where 20-year-old Bethany Harris of Newport won the overall title of Miss Wales 2018.

The Miss Wales grand final involved three appearances on the stage for finalists including the patriotic Welshwear opener; a red dress catwalk round and then the traditional evening wear parade. All finalists also had one to one interviews with the panel of six judges.

As well as the grand final show, the contestants attended the Miss Wales Charity Ball the night before and took part in the Miss Wales Empowerment Day to help them in their personal development and leadership skills.

They also did a series of challenges and fundraising in the run up to the final including supporting feminist events, taking part in self-defence classes and doing good deeds around Wales in their random act of kindness day.

Ms Parsons said: “It is an honour to represent the region.

"I intend to use the title do my friends, family and the community proud and am interested in getting involved in local events and activities.”

Paula Abbandonato, who organises the Miss Wales event, said: “The whole weekend was an incredible experience and a real celebration of the achievements of all the finalists who have worked so hard in the run up to the big night.”

Applications are now being taken to participate in Miss Wales 2019.
