GWENT Police have launched a murder inquiry after a man's body was found in a flat.

The 54-year-old was discovered by officers at an address in New Tredegar, Caerphilly County.

A police spokesperson said: "We attended an address in Long Row in the Elliots Town area of New Tredegar at approximately 3pm on Saturday 4th August 2018.

"On arrival, officers discovered the body of a deceased man who has now been identified as a 54-year-old local male.

"The family of the deceased man have been notified and are being supported by specialist officers.

"The cause of death has yet to be established and this will be determined following a post mortem."

"We are currently treating the death as suspicious and have now launched a murder investigation."

Enquiries are ongoing and officers are asking for anyone who may have information regarding this incident to please ring 101.
