OUTSTANDING volunteers from across the Caerphilly county borough have been recognised at an awards ceremony.
This year's Voluntary Sector Achievement Awards, run by Caerphilly county borough council and GAVO and sponsored by the Campaign Series and Gwent Police, attracted entries from people of all ages from all sections of the community.
An awards evening hosted by the Deputy Mayor, Cllr John Evans, took place at Blackwood Miners Institute where the winners were congratulated and presented with special awards.
The full list of winners is as follows: New Volunteer Deborah Cox - Crosskeys Environmental Volunteers Garden Clearance Scheme - Pontllanfraith Employer Supported Volunteer Margaret Evans - Rhymney Fund Raising Volunteer Abertridwr Community Church Youth Group - Abertridwr Fund Raising Volunteer Antony Halls - Abertridwr Luke Howells - Abertridwr Tim Howells - Abertridwr Inspirational Volunteer Wayne Tudball - Oakdale Practical Service Volunteer Lynne John - Pengam Wendy Roberts - Retired Senior Volunteer Jean Deacon - Pontllanfraith Record Breaking Volunteer Glenys Dean - Hengoed Young Volunteer of the Year Gareth Davies - Penpedairheol Supreme Volunteer Noel Young MBE - Cwmbran Certificates were also presented by GAVO to their Millennium Volunteers. Millennium Volunteering is a UK wide initiative designed to promote and recognise volunteering among young people aged 16 - 24. The aim is for a young person to achieve 200 hours of volunteering within a year.
Those MVs who have achieved 100hr Certificates during the year:- Delyth Williams, Rebecca Thomas, Jennifer Knapman, Glayne Walker, Sharon Blow and Louise Evans Those MVs who have completed the programme and achieved 200hr Certificates during the year: Terri-Louise Short, Geraint King and Denis Wood "This fantastic event is an annual opportunity for us to recognise the outstanding volunteers across the county borough who dedicate their lives to helping others. I'd like to congratulate all those who received awards at the event and would urge others to follow their shining example," said Cllr John Evans.
The awards ceremony, sponsored by Campaign Newspapers and Gwent Police, is administered by the Caerphilly County Borough Council Voluntary Sector Liaison Committee in association with the council and Gwent Association of Voluntary Organisations.
