King's visit is a crowning glory

A CAERRPHILLY school was given the royal 'seal of approval' when the King of Lesotho visited for the first time.

King Letsie III was keen to visit St Cenydd school, which is linked with Lesotho through Welsh charity - Dolen Cymru.

The school is twinned with Mount Royal High School in Leribe in Lesotho and exchange visits between the two schools have been taking place for six years.

In fact, pupils and teachers from St Cenydd School went for one week as part of Dolen Cymru's Lesotho Teacher Exchange programme, and the British Council Curriculum Exchange Programme.

Pupils throughout the school have been involved with the preparations for the much anticipated royal visit, with activities ranging from creating African inspired art displays, power point presentations, African music and learning about the history of the country.

Luke Howells and Melissa Evans, Sixth form pupils returned from a visit to Lesotho which is within South Africa.

CCBC Mayor, Cllr Anne Collins, said: "I am delighted to have had the honour of meeting the King. The visit shows how much he values the link between Wales and South Africa and we hope the relationship continues to grow stronger over the coming years."
