A NEWPORT man appeared in court yesterday in connection with an armed robbery at a Crumlin scrapyard.
Martin Phillip Tuft, 53, of Glebe Street, appeared at Caerphilly Magistrates’ Court yesterday charged with robbery and possession of a firearm namely a shotgun.
Tuft spoke only to confirm his name and to give his date of birth and address.
Ruth Hale, prosecuting, said the armed robbery happened on March 12 at a scrap yard called GLJ Recycling on an industrial estate in Crumlin, where £10,000 was stolen from Colin Manning. The case was adjourned until April 5 when it will be heard at Newport Crown Court.
Tuft was remanded in custody.
David John Adams, 44, of no fixed address, who was also charged in connection with the armed robbery will next appear in court on April 30 for a plea and case management hearing.
