MORE than 4,000 people went to the BBC Caerphilly Proms in the Park on Saturday when the night was filled with music and lit up by fireworks.

This years the Proms were a huge success and the weather was fine for what was effectively the second attempt to hold the event in the town.

This time BBC Cymru Wales and Caerphilly County Borough Council's event on Owain Glyndwˆr Playing Fields was packed with music lovers who weren't disappointed by the weather.

Concert goers brought their picnic tables and chairs and waved their flags as well as singing along.

On the night tenor Wynne Evans had to pull out of the evening and Andrew Staples stepped into the breach having only been contacted the day before.

Also performing were BBC Young Musician of the year 2012, Laura Van Der Heijden and soprano Elin Manahan Thomas.

Founder and director of Only Men Aloud and Only Boys Aloud, Tim Rhys-Evans from New Tredegar and BBC The One Show presenter Alex Jones were the hosts on the night.
