Risca church welcomes new minister
10:10pm Tuesday 25th September 2012 in News
MORIAH Baptist Church, Risca, is celebrating the arrival of its new minister the Rev Marc Owen.
Hundreds of people turned out to the induction service on Saturday, that saw the Rev Owen, 45, officially take over from much-loved minister the Rev John Hayward and his wife Ann, who retired earlier this year.
The new minister was born and brought up in Swansea before becoming a minister in 1988 and working in Corsham, Wiltshire.
From there he moved on to Milton Baptist Church, Weston-super-mare, and then served in the Baptist Union Wales before coming to Risca with his wife Sarah, 46 and their two children Jon and Kate. Moriah is going from strength to strength as not only a church but a centre of the community.
“Its success is due to God’s work in the lives of the congregation.
It is much more than keeping a church building open as a museum piece, it is about coming together and building relationships,” he said.
“We have received such a warm welcome here, people have really opened their hearts to us and we already really feel part of the family.”
