Gwent is still being deluged with rain, with more expected late this afternoon.

The Environment Agency has issued 15 flood alerts in Wales as even more heavy rain is forecast, with the Met Office forecasting up to 100mm, or nearly 4in, of rainfall today.

This morning the Argus received reports that the rain has caused more flooding in Mathern and Chepstow, and the main road into Mathern was flooded.

An Environment Agency spokeswoman said: "Officers on the ground have been out over the past few days in preparation clearing blockages and are continuing to check defences and culverts.

"The Agency is also advising people not to walk through floodwaters and to eport any blockages in streams or rivers to the Agency immediately."

South Wales Fire and Rescue said they have received a couple of weather warnings, but have not had any emergency calls this morning.

Yesterday, residents in Rockfield and Wyesham woke up to find several feet of water flowing through their homes and gardens in the early hours of the morning.

Monmouthshire firefighters were also called to properties in Mounton, Chepstow and Jordan Way, which had flooded due to blocked gullies.

Drivers in Gwent have also experienced disruption due to tree branches on the roads, whilst train passengers have experienced delays across the Wales rail network.

A spokesman from Arriva Trains Wales said: "All lines are open today, but we are experiencing some minor residual delays. We are advising people to check online or on our website to see if their route may be disrupted."
