MEMBERS of Caldicot Male Voice choir are preparing to sing their hearts out for an appeal set up in memory of a Gwent baby.

Little Seren Olivia Whitcombe lost her battle for life aged seven months on July 29, after she was born three months prematurely weighing just 500g.

Friends of her parents Sian Evans, 32 and Daley Witcombe, 31, organised fundraisers in Seren's memory, in aid of the neonatal unit at the Royal Gwent Hospital which cared for her during her final months.

Now the choir, which heard about the fundraising appeal through the daughter of one of its members, has come together to organise an open rehearsal night on October 11.

Entry will be by donation on the door at 7pm and there will be refreshments, a bar, cakes and a raffle at the choir's hall on Mill Lane.

"The key thing is we need as many people to come in as possible. It doesn't matter how much they donate we are just concerned with raising as much as we can in memory of Seren," said the choir's public relations officer Jeffrey Williams.

Joanne Powell, who has helped lead the fundraising with her sister Jenna and Kirsty Bassett, was due to meet Mr Williams tomorrow to finalise the event details.

He added a bigger one could be in the pipeline if it is a success.
