Gwent youngsters warned that throwing eggs and flour ‘is offence’

GWENT Police have warned youngsters that the throwing of eggs and flour will be treated as criminal damage and anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated.

The warning comes as the force advises the elderly and vulnerable to display a ‘no callers please’ pumpkin sign in their window or door at Hallowe’en.

Schools are displaying posters asking young people to keep a look-out for the signs, and not to go to houses that are displaying them.

Shopkeepers are being asked to display posters containing messages regarding the appropriate use and sale of flour and eggs.

A short film documenting the experience of 84-year-old Cess Davies, of Blackwood, who was left frightened after some youngsters ran through his garden and banged on his doors and windows will be shown in local schools and can be viewed on YouTube.

Assistant chief constable Simon Prince said that 132 Hallowe’en-related calls were received by the force overnight last year: He said: “The throwing of eggs and flour will be treated as criminal damage and antisocial behaviour and as such will not be tolerated. Our officers will be patrolling neighbourhoods to ensure that anyone acting in this way is dealt with appropriately.”
