A CHARITY store manager in Blackwood is urging people with unwanted clothes, toys and other items to donate them, to help overcome a serious lack of stock.
Claire Samuel believes the recession has made people keep such items for longer than they otherwise would, which has been bad news for the Ty Hafan children's hospice shop in Blackwood, and for its other stores in South Wales.
"I think the economic situation has had a knock-on effect on charity shops generally, and Ty Hafan shops have not escaped. We've been hit hard," said Ms Samuels.
"We're very low on stock, especially toys. Usually, if a shop gets in a lot of donations and cannot display everything, some things are sent to our warehouse in Barry, for distribution to other Ty Hafan shops. But the warehouse is running low too."
Ty Hafan has 15 shops across South Wales, taking second-hand clothes, shoes, toys, "basically everything except electrical items," said Ms Samuel.
Anyone with items they would like to donate, may take them to the shop at 113 High Street, Blackwood, telephone 01495 229090. There are also shops in Newport and Cwmbran.
Ms Samuel is organising a Dress Up or Down Day for Ty Hafan on Friday April 30, and wants to get other stores in Blackwood involved. For information, telephone her on the number above.
