Newport County has opened a shop in the Kingsway Shopping Centre in the city for the run up to Christmas.

The idea follows the success of a shop in the centre during the Nato Summit in September.

Dave Boddy, chief executive of Newport County, said the shop, which is in a unit opposite B&M in the centre, was a temporary arrangement and would be open every day from now until December 23.

The club would be making a decision after Christmas on whether the shop would become a permanent fixture.

Mr Boddy said it would be selling the full range of County merchandise along with tickets for home games. The shop at Rodney Parade is also open.

He said: "We'll be selling everything from replica shirts to stocking fillers. Our most popular items are the replica shirts and we are currently selling a limited edition third strip in black, which the team wore when they played Luton in the FA Cup. There will only be 200 of these, so it will be a particular favourite among the fans."

The store will be open from 9am to 5pm every day until December 23, except Sundays when it will be open from 10am to 4pm.
