Leading Welsh independent accountancy Broomfield & Alexander in Newport has been ranked as top in the UK for providing charity expertise.

Compiled from data from 1,000 charities across the UK who were asked to rate their auditors, the Charity Finance magazine’s annual survey found that the Welsh firm scored highest for providing charity expertise and came in second in the UK for overall service to the charity sector (10-30 responses).

Sarah Case, who heads up Broomfield & Alexander’s charity division, said: “We’re delighted with the results. It is a huge achievement to rank so highly across the UK and a testament to the hard work and skills of our charity team. In these challenging times, charities value strong sector knowledge and expertise more than ever before. Having expert, professional and timely advice has never been more pivotal to their ongoing success.

“Charities will face a difficult year this year as they deal with issues around the adoption of the new Statements of Recommended Practice (SORPs). These are recommendations which supplement accounting standards and other legal and regulatory requirements. Charities need to seek advice about the options that are available to them. MHA recently produced a report looking at the top ten issues facing the third sector, which charities can download, and this is a great starting point for charities to start preparing themselves, but they should always seek expert advice to ensure they are in the best possible position going forward.”

Broomfield & Alexander is a founding member of MHA, the national association of independent accountants, and the aggregated results of all MHA member firms puts the group into the top 10 providers of accountancy and advisory services to charities in the UK. By joining together as part of MHA, member firms can offer clients an increased number of specialist accountancy services and expert business advice, as well as benefiting from the in-depth sector knowledge available across the association.
