Three key figures from Newport County AFC were the guest speakers at the City of Newport Business Club when they told guests how they hoped to forge a strong link with the business community in the city to help secure the future of the team.

Jon Bowkett, trust board member of County, shared the stage with David Hando, the honorary president of the club, and fellow director Shaun Johnson.

The trio spoke about the heritage and history of the club, right up to how it moved to being supporter owned this year.

Shaun Johnson explained to those at the event how the club is looking to work closely with Newport businesses through a soon-to-be-announced rewards scheme designed to allow businesses to play their part in securing its future.

New chairman of the business club Dan Goulding said: “What came across most clearly was the passion and enthusiasm that these men have for Newport County and their determination to make sure Newport has a football team it can be proud of.”

This was the first event of the 2015-16 season for the business club, which has moved it's meeting to the Celtic Manor Resort.

The next business club event will be on Thursday, January 28, 2016, when the speaker will be Andrew Tuggey, High Sheriff of Gwent.
