Leading UK care home provider, Shaw healthcare has made two key promotions at its headquarters near Newport, strengthening its management team with the appointment of two new directors.

Property services manager Tony Lane, 47, has been promoted to director of property management and will oversee the estates management for Shaw healthcare’s 80 sites across the UK, while building surveyor Geraint Evans, 37, has been made director of property development, taking Mr Lane, a former pupil at Glan Ely High School, started his working life in construction as a tradesman before achieving a Higher National Diploma in building studies and an Honours degree in Building Surveying at the University of Glamorgan.

He joined Shaw healthcare, or Shaw Homes Housing Association, as it was then, straight from university in 1995 as a maintenance officer. Mr Lane’s career progressed to property services manager after five years where he became more involved in managing the organisation’s rapidly expanding portfolio of care homes.

Fluent Welsh speaker, Mr Evans grew up in Aberaeron, Ceredigion, and studied construction management at Coleg Ceredigion before studying building and surveying at the University of Glamorgan. Mr Evans began his career working in the utilities industry as a design draftsman and later as topographical surveyor. He joined Shaw healthcare in 2007 as a building surveyor.

Jeremy Nixey, chief executive of Shaw healthcare, which is based at St Mellons, near Newport, said: “Both Geraint and Tony’s promotions are well-earned. They provide us with expert advice and play a crucial role in the effective management of our extensive property portfolio.

“Their enthusiasm for their respective roles will be important as Shaw healthcare continues to grow, while still providing quality care services across our diverse portfolio to thousands of people across the UK.”

Mr Lane said: “Having worked at Shaw healthcare for in excess of 20 years, I have witnessed the company’s huge growth. A key part of my strategy will be to ensure Shaw facilities are maintained to the highest standards and provide our teams with an environment conducive to delivering high-quality care to our Service Users.”

Mr Evans said: “I am looking forward to expanding Shaw’s property portfolio and seeking out new opportunities for us to increase our care capabilities as one the UK’s leading care providers.”
