Award-winning national gym operator Xercise4Less has announced it is set to open in the former Megabowl building at Newport Leisure Park, Spytty.

Xercise4Less will take a central position in the unit, expanding its 35-gym portfolio to Newport.

The owners of the building, Otium, have said that more new tenants will be revealed in the coming months.

Other operators at Newport Leisure Park, which is beside Newport Retail Park, include Cineworld, Harvester, Frankie & Bennie’s, McDonald’s and Pizza Hut.

Xercise4Less is expected to open as soon as July 29, and will comprise a self-contained ladies-only gym, large main studio and spin studio offering more than 40 free classes per week.

The gym will boast more than 400 exercise stations, with state-of-the-art gym equipment including running and sled pull tracks, which has fast become it’s calling card.

There will be a huge total floor area of 30,000 sq ft spread over two floors, providing a modern, open-plan facility to train and work-out in. The gym operator with its base in Yorkshire is fast becoming known as 'The People’s Gym', as its clubs offer members of all ages the opportunity to exercise and live a healthier lifestyle, rather than it being classed as an expensive 'optional extra’.

Tiffins, a well-known local restaurant operator, will also be opening in the park in the next month in the former Blockbuster store.

Director of property and construction at Xercise4Less, Darren Pallett, said: “We are thrilled and excited to be opening another gym in South Wales to bring our established health and fitness offer to the people of Newport. We are a growing business, and looking for further sites in Wales. We hope to confirm these new locations over the next few months.”

Ashley Blake, founder and CEO at Otium, which owns the former Megabowl building, said: “Signing Xercise4less is an important part of Otium’s plan for Newport Leisure Park.

"We have been looking to attract strong and established leisure operators since we acquired the scheme last year, especially those which provide a quality, day-long service.

"Along with the extensive free parking and being within easy reach from the motorway and main roads, Xercise4less will help to create a truly outstanding leisure destination for Newport and the surrounding area.”

Otium will be announcing more new tenants for the remaining space at Newport Leisure Park soon, and the scheme is on schedule to be fully occupied by the summer.

Otium Real Estate is the UK’s only pure-play leisure property investment company which runs a £200m investment fund focused on leisure real estate. It was founded by senior members of the Land Securities and X-Leisure management teams. The fund owns properties including operators such as cinemas, gyms and restaurants across the UK.
