Newport-based multi-specialist recruitment and training agencies Acorn is sponsoring a local cheerleading squad ahead of a national competition.

Galaxy Cheer, based in Caldicot, is set to compete in the Legacy Cheer Competition in the CheerSport Wales National Championships in Newport in May.

To bolster their chances of success, Galaxy Cheer has gained the support of Acorn, which has agreed to sponsor them, and will be paying towards a new kit.

Galaxy Cheer was founded by Danielle Pike in 2011 and currently has approximately 60 members, ranging in age from five to 16.

The club currently practices at Wye’s Up Gymnastic Centre in Caldicot, and is hoping to open its own gym in the future, running cheer and dance sessions for all ages.

Danielle Pike, head coach for Galaxy Cheer, said: “We are extremely grateful to Acorn for supporting our squad. The sponsorship support they have given us has really helped to boost team morale, allowing our squad to go into the competition season looking and feeling the part.

“It is always heartening to get support from local businesses as it shows strength in the community. We hope we do Acorn, and all our other sponsors, proud in the next competition in Newport.”

Maria Larcombe, director of operations (South) for Acorn, said: “We are delighted to be able to support Danielle and the Galaxy Cheer squad. Here at Acorn, we have always believed in supporting the local communities in which we conduct business, and we want to wish the squad the best of luck.”

Acorn operates from 38 branches and on-site locations across Wales, the South West, North West and South East of England, and internationally has global offices in Australia and Dublin.

Acorn places up to 6,500 people into the workplace for around 1,200 different employers every week, UK-wide and internationally. The group also delivers training and apprenticeships for more than 1,000 individuals annually.
