Matthew Lewis, operations director of Newport's Celtic Manor Resort, was the guest speaker at the recent City of Newport Business Club event.

Guests were treated to some ‘behind the scenes’ moments which took place at the Ryder Cup and Nato summit - both hosted at the resort - as well as gaining an understanding of what it takes to deliver a first class guest experience at a resort the size and calibre of the Celtic Manor.

Matthew described, with the aid of slides and video clips, the progress of the world-class resort from maternity hospital to the home of the 2010 Ryder Cup and beyond.

He went on to describe how the hotel has expanded into many new areas in recent years, including catering for families, self-catering lodges, the acquisition of another hotel and more recently, the opening of a number of fine dining and specialist restaurants.

Finally, he presented the exciting plans for the 4,000 delegate convention centre, which is scheduled to open its doors in 2019, bringing huge benefits to the region.

Business club chairman Dan Goulding said: “It was incredible to see the transformation of the Celtic Manor presented to us so enthusiastically by Matthew. It’s clear he has a passion for innovation and giving guests that all important VIP experience that keeps them coming back for more. The opening of the convention centre will open up another new chapter in the story of this remarkable hotel.”
