Caldicot-based steel company Pro Steel Engineering is celebrating a record year of growth.

In the last financial year the specialist firm increased turnover by more than £11m, up from £3.6m to £15.5m.

Pro-Steel has also introduced a number of new services, including the installation of metal decking, and has secured £360k worth of investment from Santander Corporate and Commercial for a dedicated new fabrication facility in Caldicot.

The 10,000 sq ft facility was bought after the firm identified a gap in the market.

Opened in February, it is equipped with state-of-the-art technologies to bring the steel fabrication process fully in-house, which will reduce costs and allow further growth opportunities.

Pro Steel employed a new operations director to lead the new fabrication work, and plans to employ another 20 full-time members of staff across the business over the next year.

To help fill the skills gap in the sector Pro Steel has forged a partnership with a local college to train and develop its staff. In the last year alone it spent more than £138,000 on training.

Richard Selby, director of Pro Steel, said: “This has been an incredible year of growth and expansion for Pro Steel. We are still a relatively young company so it is remarkable that we have been able to achieve so much so quickly. I’m proud of our hard-working and dedicated staff, to whom we owe our success.”

Ashley Charlton, relationship director, Santander Corporate & Commercial, said: “We’re delighted to be supporting Pro Steel Engineering as the firm moves to the next level. The growth and success of the business has been exceptional and we look forward to working with the management team at this very exciting time.”

Established in 2012 by Richard Selby and Justin Marriott, Pro Steel Engineering has become a key participant in steel construction and project management.

The firm has been involved in a number of landmark UK projects including work on the Olympic Park, Hammersmith Flyover and Crossrail, and works as a key sub-contractor with all major construction companies in the UK. Clients include William Hare, Costain, BAM Nuttall and Balfour Beatty.

Turnover has grown from £1m in FY2013 to £15m as at FY2015.
