A team from one of the UK’s leading multi-specialist training and recruitment agencies, Acorn, is set to embark on one of the most gruelling climbs in the British Isles - the National Three Peaks challenge.

Following their success in the Welsh Three Peaks challenge last year, the three-strong team from Acorn’s Construction, Mechanical & Electrical Division in Newport will be climbing the three highest peaks in Scotland, England and Wales - Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and lastly, Snowdon - on June 25.

The specialist recruitment consultants have set themselves the challenge of completing the climb in just 24 hours, in the hope of raising £2,000 for a specially-adapted bed to will help three-year-old Noah Dodd, from Gloucester.

Noah was born with Cytomegalovirus, a virus very similar to chicken pox, which greatly affected him in the womb and has led him to be severely brain damaged, visually impaired, profoundly deaf and spastic quadriplegic. Due to his condition, Noah is unable to sit up unaided and has limited mobility, which can make going to sleep extremely uncomfortable.

Aimed at children with serious and severe illnesses, the specially adapted bed, a Timmy Natural Bed, will help Noah sleep better as it is designed to make it easier for children to move, and has different sleeping platforms to ensure maximum comfort.

The dedicated fundraising team is made up of Noah’s godfather Marc Jones, Acorn’s head of operations (Construction), Lawrence Beach, Construction, Mechanical and Electrical manager, and Jack Carmock, apprentice resourcer.

Last year, the same team raised more than £1,600 after completing the Welsh Three Peaks for a Tomcat Tiger Trike, a specially adapted trike which helps Noah with his mobility and supports his lung capacity.

Marc said: “Noah is a remarkable young boy who has been through so much at such a young age. This challenge is nothing in comparison to what Noah faces every single day.

“Not only will the bed aid Noah’s development but it will support his inspirational family who constantly strive to improve his quality of life.”

Noah’s mother, Michelle Dodd, said: “We are extremely grateful to Marc, Lawrence, Jack and everyone at Acorn who have chosen to support our son in whatever way they can. They have done so much already to help Noah and we couldn’t be more grateful.”
