A family-owned boutique in Abergavenny picked up two prizes at the recent Welsh National Wedding Awards - and dedicated them both to the owner's late husband who died recently from Motor Neurone Disease.

Baroque Boutique, on Cross Street, Abergavenny, which specialises in designer wear for mother of the bride/groom, bridesmaids and wedding guests, scooped the prizes for Best Occasion Wear at the recent awards for the second year running..

The boutique is run by mother and daughter duo, Marion Challenor and Coryn Emma Price.

In 2014, Marion’s husband Bryan Challenor was diagnosed with MND, an incurable, progressive disease which attacks the motor neurones, or nerves, in the brain and spinal cord.

After being diagnosed, a determined Bryan, with his family and friends, embarked on a massive funding raising effort and last year presented the MND charity a cheque for more than £86,000 - the highest amount raised by one person contracting the disease.

Over the last 12 months Bryan’s condition progressively deteriorated and Marion took the decision to take time out of the business to care for her husband.

Coryn, aged 24, successfully managed to keep the business going, took care of all staff, finances and stock. She even managed to implement a new cloud IT system to give her Mum access and visibility of the business from home.

In September Bryan, aged 70, lost his battle with MND and passed away peacefully at home with his wife by his side.

After an extremely difficult couple of years with Bryan’s health and the fierce competition in the wedding industry, the family were overjoyed to win the two awards.

As Marion and Coryn collected the awards, Marion said: “We would like to dedicate this award to my late husband Bryan and thank our amazing customers, friends and family for their continued support.”

Coryn said: “This one is for you Dad. We wouldn’t be here, doing what we love without you!”

Baroque Boutique were also runners up at the recent 2016 Monmouthshire Business Awards in the Best Small Business category.
