THE former editor of the South Wales Argus launched his new business at an event in the city's Riverfront theatre.

Kevin Ward, who served as editor of the paper from 2012 until 2016, has now set up his own firm, Kevin Ward Media.

Local politicians and business people turned out at the drinks reception and launch on Friday evening.

Mr Ward, of Newport, said: "It has been a fantastic evening. It is good to see so many people turn out for the informal launch."

The 50-year-old said he believed his journalistic experience would benefit potential clients.

He said: "I have a lot of experience. I can speak to many people and have a big contacts book. I bring something different to this market.

"I'm well known and am trusted and I think these are very important."

Among the guests were Newport West AM Jayne Bryant, Newport East MP Jessica Morden as well as Cllr Matthew Evans, businessman Roger Hiscott and many more.

Gavin Foxall, of Newport County, who was at the event, said Mr Ward was 'passionate' about Newport and that he believed the new venture would do well.

He said: "I think his new business is a great opportunity for the city."

Stephanie Taylor, of HMO Heaven, who also attended the launch, said: "Kevin is extraordinarily well positioned with his experience. He knows Newport through and through. I wish him all the best."
